During the official presentation of the new SEAT Leon Cupra 290, we did not lose the opportunity and found ourselves behind the wheel of the first Leon Cupra in silhouette.
For instance, we followed the well-known from its holdings in the WTCC championship, Spanish driver Zornti Genet, who showed us the correct lines on the historic track of Terramar, a few kilometers from Barcelona.
It was Leon’s first Cupra range and wore the 24-valve V6 engine of 2.8 liters, which for the first time also yield power over 200 horsepower (204 Sy Keri Mena) and torque of 27.5 kg.
For the date of this particular engine was considered revolutionary, as the included angle between the two rows of cylinders was too small, only 15 degrees. In essence, it was an V assembly engine although approached in series, with the width being less than that of a V6 as the length of one of the motor assembly line.
Besides the above, the Leon Cupra had a six-speed gearbox, carrying traffic on all four wheels. The all-wheel drive was the Haldex and could transfer torque to both the back and the front axle, depending on road conditions.
Outstanding was the performance, with the 0-100 km. / H are achieved in 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 235 km. / H, giving the Spanish hatchback title SEAT’s fastest production car in the 50-year history.
Eischorontas inside our attention pulled the bucket seats of Recaro, clad in leather and fabric, while not lacking the necessary Cupra logo.
So can the first Leon Cupra be constructed 16 years ago, but we duly enjoyed on the dance floor.
We went a little back in time, then in early 2000 and presented the parallelism with some models sporting the season.
The car with all this technology was well ahead generously offering secure, fast driving enjoyment.
Something that continues today with the new SEAT Leon Cupra with 290 purebred horses.
